Revision, ongoing

The revision process is ongoing. I’ve already made a few modifications — one of them resulting in an additional chapter — and I’ll continue reviewing and revising over the coming days and weeks.

The last page

The first draft is finished.

Twenty-three chapters and a prologue, a little under ninety-four thousand words, written between the middle of July and now. The last two chapters — the return, and the thing the whole book has been quietly walking toward — went down this week.

A first draft is not a book. Now comes the part where I read the whole thing start to finish and find out what I actually wrote, which is never quite what I thought I was writing. Chapters twenty through twenty-three are still wet. The opening nineteen have been through revision and are the ones worth reading.

But it’s the whole shape now, end to end, and I know how it ends, and I know what the second one is about.

Somewhere to read it

Reading a novel in a word processor is miserable, and I’d been asking people to do exactly that.

So the book has a proper reader now — it turns pages like a Kindle, remembers where you stopped, does dark mode, and works on a phone, which is where most people are actually going to read it. The cover is up on the front of it.

Nineteen chapters are through revision and readable. If you’re one of the people I’ve been sending chapters to: this is where they live now.
